Alert for Heat in Mexico City on Good Friday

During Good Friday, Mexico City will be under heat alert, according to authorities. The population is urged to take precautions and avoid health damage caused by sun exposure. The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City indicated that at least 10 municipalities are under Yellow Alert for heat, with Iztapalapa being one of the affected areas, especially during the performance of the Passion of Christ stations of the cross event, which attracts thousands of people.

Civil Protection issued a series of recommendations for those participating in the religious events on Good Friday and for those who go out in the afternoon. Among the municipalities under Yellow Alert for heat, with temperatures forecasted to reach up to 32 degrees, are Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo, Tláhuac, and Venustiano Carranza. It is expected that the hours of greatest heat during Good Friday will be between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

If going out in the afternoon, it is recommended to use sunscreen even on cloudy days, wear light-colored clothing, use sunglasses, a hat or cap, seek cool places and stay in them, and avoid consuming food on the street, as it can easily spoil. This weekend, hot weather is expected in Mexico City due to anticyclonic circulation in mid-atmospheric levels, which also leads to a decrease in the likelihood of rain and an accumulation of pollutants that could trigger an environmental contingency and the Double No Circulate.
